Sorry for not thanking you but I have been having some troubles.
Where do you purchase G motors as I cannot seem to find a supplier in Victoria?
Thanks

No worries,
You may not find a supplier in Shep, but you can order them through "The hobbyman" in Dandenong, "Hearns Hobbies" in the city or if you join an order, through this forum in the "Äustralian rocketry orders" section Aerotech order thread.

Blake (Kopius on the forum) will be doing an Aerotech order in the new year sometime and he already has my order form. If you like, (and any other melbourneites/Victorians) you can order through Blake and get it sent with mine so you limit the shipping cost.

I will not be flying any MPR rockets until Tripoli starts the new launch schedule after the fire season is over so I am in no real hurry to get my motors delivered. Also since my last post HPR motors are now legal in Vic and will be available for purchase by certified Tripoli members at Tripoli launches through AAT (David Wilkins).

Back to your initial question, there is a certification age limit in Tripoli of 18 years old but you can certify as a junior level one younger than this (14yo or 16yo I'm not sure). With this certification you can still fly H and I class motors and you can certify level 2 when you reach 18 without having to do anything else. I would have thought someone would have picked up my mistake before now....

I believe his next order is due to be made in Feb.

Thank you all for the quick and helpful replies.
Do the suppliers you suggested do a "batch" order every 6 months or so, or do I have the wrong idea. How expensive would a G motor be?
Thanks

I think the G motors I got recently were around the $20~$25 mark, depending upon the ozzy dollar at the time and which motor it is specifically. Unsure of what the shipping cost to you would be as I have only ever picked them up or grabbed them at the launch site.

If you PM Kopius what you want, chances are he may have some in stock, and/or give you the exact pricing.

The batch orders I believe are done based on demand. The last order, as you will notice from the "Australian Rocketry Orders" section, was placed in October. The next order may be done around Feb, so I guess that is 4 months apart. It really depends upon demand as mentioned above though.

If you purchase your motors through hobby stores, they are supplied by "Dawn Trading" who are the importers. The hobby store will get a motor in if Dawn have it in stock but I have no idea when dawn does there order.

Kopius does a batch order directly with Aerotech and imports them himself when there is enough demand, but also keeps some stock (he has all the required licenses and paperwork). Because he deals directly with the manufacturer and there are no middle men involved, Blake's prices are at a considerable discount compared to what a hobby shop will charge (typically about 40% cheaper I think).

As to what a G motor will cost, that really depends on the individual motor and if you are getting single use motors or reloads. You will need the appropriate case to use reloads (typically for a G you are looking at a 29mm 40-120 hobbyline case but some reloads use a 29/100 or 29/120 high power style case). You will need the correct case for the reload.

Hi evilfrogie, as it seems you haven't launched G size motors before, I would recommend using first single use motors to get the idea of power etc. Then progress into reloadable one's and as has been pointed out, you need motor cases for them. :)

Kopius might have some stock of G's.

Thanks everyone for all the info. Hopefully I'll apply for a junior license in the next 6 months. :)
