Hi everyone .. after many years (ok .. decades .. LOL) of saying how much I want to get into rocketry .. and spending the last couple of years playing with home made "soda" rockets with my son (8) .. I have decided that I am finally doing it, it sorta helps he is very interested (LOL) .. so we will be purchasing our 1st rocket (kit) in the coming month (any ideas of a good place in QLD to get one - or should I order from StanBridges?) I have been surfing the net, looking into finding a club where we will be able to launch from as well as meet other enthusiasts .. how ever I am not finding a lot of information for clubs north side of Brisbane. So far the only one I have found launches from Cedar Grove .. which is over 100kms (or more) away south side.. does any one know of one for the north side of Brissie? - Darren

Hi Darren, I would suggest the online shop attached to this very forum you are on would be THE BEST place in Australia for ALL your rocketry needs. Either send an email to info@ausrocketry.com.au or post Blake aka kopius a PM or just browse the shop at http://www.ausrocketry.com/shop/ and you will get the best deals around. As for launch sites, once again Blake is your man on the ground to talk to. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks Scoop I had been looking at the shop here as well ... I think I should have specified "for a shop where can I walk in and buy from" (or at least look at and talk to someone) before we start spending $$ - Darren

Not sure about hobby stores in QLD, but I do know Ausrocketry has a trailer stocked full of goodies at each and every QRS launch at Cedar Grove! Might just be worth making the trek to a launch to check out "Whats in the Box!" There is also a contact phone No. to call if you want to chat (0)7 3333 1655

(0)7 3333 1655 Thanks .. was thinking of doing that .. if they are "it" for qld then looks like we will need to do the trek there I was just on their site yesterday and saw I only just missed an open day by 3 weeks or so .. I see there's a members launch coming up in a couple of weeks, might have to get in touch with them thanks - Darren

Hi Darren and welcome to the forum.
You have certainly come to the right place for rocketry not only in QLD, but Australia. Australian Rocketry Pty Ltd is the largest importer, distributor and supplier of rocketry products in Australia. We actually supply to every state in the country as well as some other countries.
The office is unattended today, however please feel free to send me an email and I would be more than happy to call you and discuss your requirements and queries.
Please tell us more about the projects you have worked on with your son. There are a number of Father/Son, Mother/Son, Mother/Daughter and Father/Daughter teams out there and it is always great to hear about what people have been up to.
I look forward to talking with you more.
Cheers,
Blake

Thanks Blake will do Well.. we haven't really done a lot.. just played with 1.2L and 2L "coke" bottles .. with bi-carb and vinegar .. drilling a small exhaust hole in the lid .. some with fins (some without .. lol) .. this hols we are planning on doing some more.. going to run a string as a guide to shoot one across the yard they don't get very high .. but he loves it .. so I've peaked his interest .. so he will be stoked when we get our first kits and launch them - Darren

Hi Stingray
I live in Bracken Ridge on Brisbane's northside. While it is true that it is quite a distance to travel, I don't think that there are any clubs that operate in the area both of us would prefer. I suspect it has, amongst other things, something to do with the proximity of the airport. Inspite of this distance, I don't often miss the regular monthly launches at QRS' Cedar Grove site and sometimes travel even further than Bracken Ridge for a launch. Rest assured, the travel distance is worth it, not only for the cool launches and good company, but also to have a look at the wide selection of rocketry goodies available on these days. It is actually quite impressive.
I don't know if you've been shopping around on the net for rocketry products, but if you did you'd likely have found that there are very few online or shopfront suppliers that carry a range even remotely comparable to this one, they most often don't have the item you're after in stock anyway and the prices are not flash because of either high overheads or lack of buying power due to low turnover. Enough said, but if nothing else with this shop you have the convenience of a local bloke (that sells nothing but serious rocketry stuff, no doll houses or alien action figures) being your supplier.
No, I have no vested interest in this specific online store, I just wish somebody had told me at the beginning where to buy my stuff from - would've saved me big $$$ and a whole lot of wasted time, effort and frustration. These days I just "buy where I fly" and I'm quite happy with that.
May I suggest you try to make one of the QRS launches, come have some fun and have a look at the products they have available there.
Cheers Nic

Cheers Nic thanks Nic .. pretty much what I'd surmised .. I'd started at Stanbridges as I come from Perth and knew of it .. and wasn't seeing any site that specifically said QLD .. .. glad I found this forum Will definitely be trying to get to a launch day .. wish i had've got off my a*** and looked into this beginning of the year as i saw we just missed a public day Don't know if it will be the 15/4 one tho .. that's daughters birthday (LOL) .. so i think i am busy better start save $$ for our endeavours - Darren

Hi Darren and welcome to the best rocketry forum around ! Sorry to say that you sure missed a great public launch day with 61 launches and over 1000 people watching on. But don't worry, there will be others. I would say it's worth travelling a bit to get to launch rockets in the right environment and with really good people. Please keep an eye on our website as there will be a change of site most likely for the next launch. This will be confirmed shortly. And as others have said already, Blake is the man all things rocketry specially here in QLD. Cheers, Ari

Thanks Ari and Stewart .. It's not that I think its far .. it's more a case of cost of fuel .. lol But if QRS is the place to be .. we will be there Just realised it's gonna be further (LOL) as we are planning to move to Toowoomba 2nd half of this year .. Oh well .. more incentive to get a decent job and pay for our "fun" Have just been discussing it with Family and altho partner says she is happy to come watch (but not fussed with make/launch them) we both agreed my daughters (twin 6 yr olds) will prob want their own rockets to launch - Darren
